Special Funds
You can direct your contribution to any of FAMILY’s programs or service areas using our online donation form or by designating your wishes when you send a check. The following are three special funds in honor of valued Family staff and supporters who have died:
Lorraine Kohn/Michael P. Wood Memorial Fund
Lorraine Kohn, a long-time Family staff member and Program Director of Homelessness Programs for a number of years, died in 2005. Michael Wood, another long-time staff member who volunteered at all of Family’s shelters at one time or another, died of ALS in 2006. In their memory, FAMILY has established a fund to help families and individuals to overcome homelessness by paying for security deposits for apartments. Eligible families work with Case Managers to ensure they are able to manage their monthly expenses, but the gift of a security deposit, ready at the moment housing becomes available, can make all the difference.
Joan worked tirelessly with Family’s adolescents for more than twenty years. The Fund, established in her memory after her death in 2005, provides important extras to young people at FAMILY like school supplies, special clothing, or transportation expenses for a special opportunity.

John Herald was one of many musicians who have performed to benefit Family over the years. Though not a staff member, he was always ready to help others in need. After his death in 2006, John’s friends established a fund in his name to help people with seemingly small items—a car repair or emergency prescription—which can make a big difference in someone’s life. The Fund is administered by FAMILY’s Woodstock Walk-In Center.
