“People become homeless for many reasons. They remain homeless because Ulster County does not have affordable housing.” Michael Berg, Executive Director of FAMILY of Woodstock Inc.

The core of Ulster County’s homeless problem: the lack of affordable housing.  Rentals that do become available are often too small for families, in disrepair or, for other reasons, are not appropriate. FAMILY helps fight homelessness in many ways, including providing leadership in promoting affordable housing projects county-wide.

One of the biggest barriers to families is their inability to raise a Security Deposit. When choosing between prospective renters, a landlord usually chooses the one with ready cash. In 2005, FAMILY established a fund to level the field for our clients who can afford the monthly rent but do not have enough for a cash Security Deposit.

You can add to FAMILY'S ability to help secure decent, affordable housing by contributing to The Lorraine Kohn/Michael P Wood Memorial Fund. Add your gift and help a FAMILY into a new home. Or contact Michael Berg at (845)331-7080.
